South African Wine Holidays
With award winning wines, gourmet food, spectacular scenery, a Mediterranean climate and plentiful vineyard and wine estate accommodation is it any wonder South Africa is among the worlds leading wine holiday destinations?
There are numerous wine routes worth following in South Africa. The best known include the historic Constantia winelands in the suburbs of Cape Town, with its legendary Vin de Constance, and the well established winelands of Stellenbosch and Paarl, known for their legendary Cabernet Sauvignons and Pinotage. However there are many fine wines being produced in other areas around the Cape and the following wine routes are also well worth exploring: - The Robertson Wine Route – traditionally known for its desert wines, the longest wine route in South Africa is now producing quality whites and reds.
- The Walker Bay Wine Route – where else can you combine whale watching with world renowned Chardonnays and Pinot Noirs?
- The Helderberg Wine Route – historic 300 year old estates, Cape Dutch homesteads and award winning wineries producing quality reds and whites alike.
- The Elgin Wine Route – sumptuous Sauvignon Blancs and Pinot Noir’s are produced in this traditional apple growing area along the Four Passes scenic drive.
- The Tulbagh Wine Route – a historic village crammed with quaint listed buildings in a picturesque valley… and the wine’s not too shabby either!
- The Cape Point Wine Route – award winning Sauvignon Blancs and Semillions from one of the newest and smallest of South Africa’s wine districts.
