Whale Watching South Africa

whale-watchingOne of South Africa’s premier tourist destinations, Hermanus rates among the world’s top whale watching destinations.

Southern Right whales, which visit our coast to breed and give birth between June and November every year, can be spotted either from the shore or on an organised boat trip. Their displays of breaching, lob tailing and spy hopping are often spectacular. To view these leviathans of the sea up close truly is an experience that has to be seen to be believed.

Humpback and Bryde’s whales can also be spotted off the South African coast, as can various dolphin species and, occasionally, orcas and killer whales.
