Flowers & Gardens South Africa

gardensFlower, botany and garden tours and holidays to South Africa are becoming increasingly popular, and this is little wonder.

South Africa is a superb destination for botanists and garden enthusiasts alike. The Cape boasts its very own plant kingdom, which covers the smallest surface area and yet is the most varied on the planet, with more than 24,000 plant species. The Garden Route too is known for its lush flora (though not necessarily its gardens) and is particularly worth visiting in Spring.

For a few weeks in Spring (usually August / September) the otherwise inhospitable and barren Namaqualand explodes into a feast of colour, creating a patchwork effect of indigenous flowers. Although a spectacle to behold, this flower extravaganza is also notoriously unpredictable and during dry years may not occur at all.

With its many and varied ecosystems, large areas of protected nature and numerous nature guides, Southern Africa’s botany is sure to delight.
