Fishing South Africa

fishingTrout fishing (September to May) is popular in the streams and dams of the Cape, the midlands of KwaZulu-Natal and the Drakensberg Mountains of KwaZulu-Natal and Mpumalanga.

The world-renowned tiger fish, famous for its fight, is undoubtedly the most sought after trophy in the fresh waters of Southern Africa. It can be found in the lakes of northern KwaZulu-Natal as well as in the Kwando and Zambezi rivers of Zambia, Namibia’s Caprivi Strip and Northern Botswana.

Deep-sea fishing is also popular in Southern Africa, especially in the warm waters of Mozambique’s Bazaruto archipelago and the KwaZulu Natal coast. Record-breaking marlin can be found off the coast of Mozambique from October to March, while sailfish are plentiful in the winter months. The June sardine run along the KwaZulu-Natal coast attracts hoards of feeding game fish and sharks. Tuna fishing is also possible from Cape Town.
